Snowshoeing at Crater Lake Q: What is insatiable curiousity?

I have that gene that must know what is around the next bend. One March found me in Redding, CA on business. I finished my meeting on a Friday and the next morning hopped into my rental car to explore beautiful Northern California. To the degree possible due to snow, I saw a small piece of Lassen Volcanic National Park. From there I could see that it was not far (comparatively) to Mt. Shasta, so off I went. At Mt. Shasta folks told me I wasn't far from this lovely little town, Ashland, Oregon, so I set my sights to spend the night there. Once in Ashland I was told, you know you're not that far from Crater Lake. But I had to fly out of Redding the next afternoon. But I couldn't stand being that close (again, comparatively speaking) and I got up early and drove the several hours to Crater Lake. Upon arrival I learned that there was a ranger snowshoe walk due to leave in a few minutes. I quickly rented snowshoes (my first try) and joined in. Ranger walk completed, another quick look at the magnificent beauty of the lake, and I hopped back into the car and raced to the Redding Airport, by now, hours and hours away. But I made the plane!
