Correct answer: What is wishful thinking?
At nearly age forty, I decided to take up the bass guitar. I have had a long-time attraction to (some may call it weakness for) musicians, but as you might imagine, a romance with them can be problematic. Finally it occured to me that I don't need these jokers to be near the music. So one day after work I marched into a music store clad in suit, pantyhose, and pumps. The shop clerk asked me, "May I help you?" Laying my briefcase on the counter, I replied with trepidation, "I'm not sure, but I think I'm supposed to play the bass." To this man's credit, he kept his amusement relatively under wraps, and pulled up a chair for me to sit in. He placed a guitar in my lap and left me alone. It took me a few more months before I actually got a bass and when I brought it home, I tried it on, posing in front of the mirror, pretending to play. Which just goes to show you, it's never too late to have a happy childhood.
