I am the middle of three girls. That's younger sister Nina pulling my hair and offering up precise evidence that she picked on me as much as older sister Irene. (Insert "awwwww, poor baby" here.) I have no brothers, which I think explains a lot about why it took me so long to understand men.
My family, that's what. It took me a long time to realize that my family was, well, odd. When I was in my early 20s, I asked a childhood friend, "Did you know my family was weird?" She replied, "Of course. Why do you think I liked coming over so much?!" This is the last picture taken of the whole family together before my father died in early 1996.
