Beautius Maximus Australius

If you were to describe countries according to displays of affection, I would say the difference between New Zealand and Australia is that while New Zealand gives you a warm hug, Australia gives you a swat on the behind. There is a coarseness to the place that sort of pervades all, some would suggest that this is the result of being settled by convicts! But my, oh my, does Australia have some incredibly beautiful places. Here are some for you to enjoy.

favorite placeThis is Cape Tribulation, the furthest north I got in Queensland. It is described as where the rainforest meets the reef. I had a wonderful, relaxed (yes, relaxed!) time here. This definitely was one of my favorite places in Australia.

The hike to this spot was difficult for me, but the view quite worth it. This is Dunk Island, again in Queensland, off the shore of Mission Beach. Without really meaning to I did the 9 kilometer circuit hike that day.

Dunk Island

I also enjoyed Mission Beach itself. That's Dunk Island in the distance.

Keppel IslandLong Beach on Great Keppel Island was a bit of a hike without any shade, but that meant it was also quite empty.

This breath-taking view is in the Whitsunday Islands. I had a marvelous three day sail/snorkeling trip there. Another trip highlight.Whitsundays
