As I write this from Laos, it seems sort of silly to even bother with this entry. I left Australia nearly two months ago and have been to five countries since then. But true to my tenacious nature, I just can't let go of an intent. So, let me clean out the Aussie refrigerator and share these final pictures with you.
![]() | This picture is of Lake Wabby on Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. The walk to the lake was across surreal sand dunes, and the water was clear and cool, lovely for swimming. Fraser Island was a favorite part of my Australian journey. |
Another Australian highlight was my three day sailing/snorkeling trip through the Whitsunday Islands. I wisely chose my boat by the fact that not only was it owner-operated, but that one of the owners was a chef! Although a bit caustic sometimes, he made wonderful meals and accommodated any quirky diet with creativity rather than acting as if you might be a nuisance. Here's a picture of the Great Eagle.

Snorkeling in Australia was delightful. Many people preferred scuba diving, but my "I-can't-breathe" claustrophobia precludes me from even considering that. However, once I learned that people with ear problems shouldn't dive, I cowardly claimed that as the reason for my disinterest. Snorkeling has made me happy enough.

On the Whitsunday cruise, we stopped and had cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on an empty beach and watched the sunset. I actually got mellow.

So now onto another continent!
